| Working
with beautiful woods is extremely satisfying to him,
and of course their home has a traditional ratskeller,
crafted from woods from around the world. You can
also see an example of Norman’s craftsmanship
by visiting the tasting rooms of Longoria Wines and
Fiddlehead Cellars, whose tasting bars were custom
made by Norman.
The small tasting bar that Norman
built overlooking the estate vineyard is a delightful
place to sample the wines, usually enhanced by a little
“something” from Traudl’s kitchen.
The tasting bar is also adorned with the beautiful
photography of son-in-law Chuck Kopzcak, whose images
of the west coast can be viewed at Pacific
Coast Images.
Well, Norm has his woodshop and
vineyard and Traudl has her kitchens and gardens!
Everything here is homemade, and many of the foods
prepared are traditional German fare. Gardens and
fruit trees surround the property, and provide a
year
long cornucopia of ingredients. And we hope to see
you at our annual “Cheers
for Charlotte” celebration with our fellow
dog-loving winemakers of the area!
Traudl usually just makes up recipes
as she’s cooking, depending upon what garden
ingredients are available, the time of year, and what
kind of weather we’re having. We asked her to
go back and try to reconstruct those dishes for this
website and we'll add them to the Recipes
section, as well as sending the latest ones out in
each newsletter. We hope you enjoy preparing them,
and please email Traudl with any questions!
The tradition of craftsmanship and
sculpting a natural material into a work of art threads
through the wines of Huber Cellars as well.
