Dessert in a Glass!
“This
is dessert in a glass! Incredible deep purple ink
color with an aroma of caramel, it’s velvety
and rich and sweet enough to satisfy your dessert
craving all on its own. We did pair it with chocolate,
biscotti and camembert, all of which worked, and
we were dying to pour it over ice cream for something
truly decadent (another day …).This port-like
beauty was a fitting finale to our holiday tasting”
Laura Lindsey and Diane Murphy for Edible Santa
Barbara.
Huber gets the gold!

HUBER
Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2007 Score: 91
Pure, rich and spicy, with a medley
of plum, black cherry and wild berry fruit that's
intense and zesty, with hints of mint and bay leaf,
gaining depth from midpalate on and ending with a
long, elegant finish. Drink now through 2013. 448
cases made. - J.L.

Huber 2005 Estate Pinot Noir
The vineyard, also the source of a Brewer-Clifton
bottling, is a top one, and here has produced a luscious
wine in this long hang-time vintage. Pinot doesn’t
get much riper in cherry marmalade, black raspberry
and blueberry jam, cola and pomegranate than this
and there’s a rick, blackstrap molasses undercurrent.
For all that, the wine finishes briny-spicy.
Has the depth and acid-tannin balance to age gracefully
through 2012.
A Wine Enthusiast Cellar Selection!
Huber Dornfelder, 2004
How dark this wine pours, with a purple glycerine
that stains the glass. Aromatically, it’s a
powerhouse with heaps of violets, blackberry jam,
raw meat and caramelly vanilla. In the mouth, acidity
hits first, then fruit, and then the tannins lock
everything down. 89 points

Steve Heimoff from the Wine
Enthusiast recently tasted our 2005 unoaked Chardonnay,
and had this to say:
Very crisp in zesty acidity, bone dry, and with
exotic flavors. This stony, minerally Chardonnay impresses
for its firm structure. Flavorwise, it’s explosive
in lemons, limes, crunchy pears, Asian spices and
buttery vanilla, even though it’s unoaked. Showcases
its terroir in a fine way. 90 points.
Santa Rita Hills blossoms -
growing Chardonnay & Syrah in the Pinot zone
In his overview of Syrah and Chardonnay
wines from Sta. Rita Hills for Wine News,
Steve Pitcher had this to say:
Huber, 2005 Estate Chardonnay,
Santa Rita Hills - $21: Vinified in stainless steel
and spared malolactic, this vibrant, fruit-forward
Chardonnay offers appealing aromas of fresh citrus,
juicy pear and clover. Lithe and shimmering on the
palate, replete with wet stone minerality; medium-bodied,
round, yet pleasingly crisp with flavors of lemon
curd and just-ripe apricot. Lively close. Score: 91
Gems from the Ghetto
Michael O'Shea, in his review of our 2004 wines for
CASA Santa Barbara, picked the 2005 "Stainless
Steel" Chardonnay as his favorite - "young
beauty. Bright, citrusy and offering a nuance of mineral,
a touch of pear nd a hint of green apple, the wine
finishes with a refresching zestiness."
We think he liked our other wines as well - click

An
Alternative Red
In her wine review of “Alternative
Reds”, Food & Home’s Laurence
Hauben had this to say about our Dornfelder: “..a
dense wine that is almost black in the glass, with
an aroma of licorice and tobacco followed in the mouth
by ripe plums, cedar and a lingering taste of dried
berries.”

Michael O’Shea, Santa
Barbara NewsPress, February 2005
"Another German grape, Dornfelder apparently
does well in Santa Barbara and Norm Huber has taken
advantage of that. If you’re a fan of Syrah’s
intense, inky, glass- and palate-coating color, you
ain’t seen nothin’ ‘til you’ve
experienced this Dornfelder. I definitely recommend
decanting here since the wine is unfiltered and its
nose is fairly closed. In the mouth, it unveils its
density and perfumed berry and tobacco character,
leading to a finish that leaves you wondering what
just happened on your palate. "
