Dear Norman & Traudl,
According to legend, on Christmas Eve in Germany rivers turn to wine,
animals speak to each other, tree blossoms bear fruit, mountains open up
to reveal precious gems, and church bells can be heard ringing from the
bottom of the sea. Of course, only the pure in heart can witness this
Christmas magic. All others must content themselves with traditional
German celebrating, of which there is plenty. As a matter of fact, there
is so much celebrating that is has to begin on December 6th, St. Nicholas
Day.

Well, we're still waiting for the gems and haven't heard any church
bells from the nearby Pacific yet, but the vines have rewarded us with
wine and the cat and dog certainly have a lot to say! Holiday preparations
are under way, with Traudl baking up a storm in the kitchen and Norman not
only crafting candleholders and other delights from barrel staves, but
also preparing to bottle the 2006 Chardonnays.

We are pleased to announce the release of the 2006 estate Pinot
Noir, just in time for those Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir lovers on your
list - or to grace your holiday table. 2006 was a very small vintage, but
the small clusters and berries have produced a wonderfully concentrated
and delicious wine.
A swirl will unleash the bright cherry and dried strawberry notes of
the wine's bouquet. A first taste reveals additional notes of raspberry,
smoke and peppery spice, all enveloped in a silky and soft texture. There
is a nice lift of bright acid on the finish, which reinforces the cherry
notes along with hints of cola and whole clove.
We have also bottled a small amount of this 2006 Pinot Noir in 375ml
half bottles - perfect as a stocking stuffer!

Norman takes retired barrels and
crafts them into low- profile candleholders that add just that extra
amount of ambience to your table. The underside of the stave is stained by
the red wine that aged in that particular barrel. A unique and beautiful

No holiday around here is complete without a dessert from Traudl!
Here's an easy and traditional German cookie recipe - delicious and quick!
Sprintz Cookies
5 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1
lb. butter
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3 tsp vanilla
cookie
sprinkles!
Sift together the flour and baking powder. Set
aside.
Cream the butter and sugar. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix
well. Blend the flour mixture into the butter mixture.
Use a cookie
press with your choice of designs and place cookies on an ungreased cookie
sheet. Add sprinkles if you like, and bake for 10-12 minutes at 350
degrees.
