Dear Norman & Traudl,
We are very pleased to announce the release of our 2005
Dornfelder, and just in time for barbecue season! Not only is
Dornfelder a superb wine with grilled meats, but it is also one of the
most unique wines you can bring to a gathering with friends, as we believe
that we are one of only a few producers in this country of this German
varietal.
We also have some news on our Chardonnay, a sneak peak at
Charlotte's Reserve, and an update on an exciting event on
the near horizon. Read on! Traudl & Norman Huber

2005 Dornfelder - Inky dark, Full of fruit, Barbecue
ready! |
 |
Although the most astounding characteristic of Dornfelder is it's inky,
dark purple color and glass coating texture, it should not overshadow the
wine itself! The 2005 vintage was one of those "talked about" years - a
cool, long growing season that resulted in incredible quality and abundant
quantity. Dornfelder responded with beautiful fruit notes of blackberry,
black currant, dark plums and spice!
This is the most fruit forward Dornfelder to date, and is nicely
balanced with bright acids, elegant dusty tannins and a pleasant,
lingering finish. Absolutely delightful with barbecue!!
So for all those "barbecue days" on the near horizon - Memorial Day,
Graduations, Family reunions, Fathers Day - pull out a bottle of 2005
Dornfelder. Have a glass while barbecuing, and then a glass
with barbecue!

A Peak into the Future |
 |
Our canine companion of 17 years, Charlotte, passed away late last
year. She was a wonderful, "dornfelder colored" lab who we miss every day.
We decided to honor Charlotte with a reserve bottling of the 2005
Dornfelder, and found our two favorite barrels for this special blend. A
little bit more new oak, a little longer in barrel and now getting a bit
more bottle aging, Charlotte's Reserve will be released in
the autumn of this year.
A portion of the proceeds from each bottle sold will benefit the Santa
Ynez Valley Humane Society (from whom we first found Charlotte all those
years ago!). We are offering Charlotte's Reserve as a futures
purchase, with special savings now and delivery in September. Here's to
Charlotte!
Futures price per bottle - $40.00 Price upon Release -
$50.00

Wine & Fire! |
 |
We are proud members of the Sta. Rita Hills Winegrowers
Alliance, a group of winegrowers who grow and/or produce Pinot
Noir and Chardonnay from this extraordinary appellation. This year, the
alliance is again hosting a two-day celebration and exploration of Sta.
Rita Hills, and we invite you to join us!
The event begins on Friday evening, June 22nd, at the La Purisima
Mission in Lompoc. All of the producers who craft Pinot Noir or Chardonnay
will be on hand, pouring their wines under the majestic oaks of the
mission grounds. You'll meet all the winemakers and growers, taste the
wines and enjoy fire-grilled cuisine from some of the best caterers in the
area - all serenaded by traditional, ranchero era music. This Wine
Reception under the Stars begins at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the serenity of the previous evening will be dispensed as
we gather at 10:00 a.m. at beautiful Rancho la Viña to explore some of the
controversial winemaking subjects of the day in Trial by Fire! Four
panels of six winemakers will defend their positions on various subjects,
trying to prove their positions with their wines. We will be defending
both sides of the "Oak or No Oak in Chardonnay" debate, since we
believe that both styles are delicious and appropriate, depending upon the
occasion, meal or mood! Trial By Fire will also feature a gourmet
ranchero-inspired meal created and presented by Chef Jeff Olsson of New
West. It promised to be an incredible weekend - we hope to see you there!
