Dear Norman & Traudl,
We hope you had an enjoyable summer! We can feel the season changing
here in Santa Barbara County - the days are shorter, the nights cold and
star-filled, the mornings chilly. And the vineyard is awash in bright
golds, indigo purples and contrasting green leaves - it's almost harvest
season!
Autumn and Harvest seasons bring a lot of news, so read on!

Introducing 2007 Chardonnay (unoaked) |
 |
We are pleased to announce the release of our 2007 Unoaked
Chardonnay. Around the Huber household, we call this wine
Rostfrei, which means "stainless steel" in German. We only make
this style of Chardonnay in exceptional years, as the cold, stainless
steel fermentation produces a wine that is purely the essence of the
grape, the vineyard and the vintage. All must be perfect.
2007 was such a year. Although crop yields were very small, the fruit
was beautiful and flavors very concentrated. There is a lively bouquet of
lemongrass, key lime blossom and asian pear. On the palate, there is a
nice roundness of lemon curd balanced with the lively acidity of citrus.
Additional nuances of honeydew melon, just ripe apricot and lemon verbena
merge with the unmistakable stony minerality so typical of Huber
Chardonnay. Elegantly crisp, beautifully balanced, wonderfully refreshing
and food friendly!

Celebration of Harvest |
 |
Join us, and the 100+ members of the Santa Barbara County Vintners'
Association as we celebrate the joys of harvest! Here at Huber Vineyard,
we might just start to harvest just about the time of the festival!
Due to three frosts and a cold spring, not only are estimated crop yields
miniscule, but late to boot! Anyway...
We'll be pouring our latest wines, including the new 2007 Chardonnay,
at Rancho Sisquoc on October 11th. It is an annual festival that is full
of great wines, superb food samplings, live and lively music and a silent
auction to benefit local schools and charities. We hope to see you there!

Cheers for Charlotte Tasting |
 |
We are once again hosting a tasting in memory of our longtime canine
companion, Charlotte. She was a wonderful dog, a black Lab who helped
Norman in the vineyard, was a tremendous gopher hunter and was bi-lingual
German and English! This is our second year of hosting an afternoon
tasting here at the vineyard that benefits the Santa Ynez Humane Society,
so that all animals might find their "people".
This year, "Cheers for Charlotte!" will be held on
October 19th, from 1:00 - 4:00, here at the Huber Vineyard. The afternoon
tasting will feature wines from:
- Prodigal - Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from winemaker Steve
Russell, previously a veterinarian
- Chien - Alsatian style wines from Don and Lindsay Schroeder,
named for their canine companions
- Flying Goat - Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, named after
winemaker Norm Yost's pygmy goat "kids"
- Nicolaysen - Pinot Noir and "Brianna's Vineyard" Syrah, named
for Bob Nicolayson's cat
- And our own Huber Cellars Estate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a
preview of 2006 "Charlotte's Reserve"
The wines will be accompanied by tasty appetizers, and 100% of
ticket sales will benefit the Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society.
Tickets are just $25.00 per person, and are tax deductible. To purchase
tickets, call the Humane Society at (805) 688-8224 or...
