Harvest Happenings at Huber

Not only a Festival, but Special Pricing too!

Dear Norman & Traudl,

We started to harvest our estate vineyard today, picking about 9 tons of Chardonnay for various winemaker clients. We'll continue tomorrow, including the Chardonnay clusters for our own Huber Cellars wines. It is an exciting, exhausting, invigorating and just slightly anxious time of year, with eyes and ears tuned to the weather forecast each day!

The growing season was long and cool, and we expected to have a late harvest. But some intense heat spikes in August and September brought us right back on schedule. Next up - Pinot Noir, then Dornfelder and finally late harvest Dornfelder for our Hafen port- style dessert wine. When? Good question....

This weekend is also the annual Celebration of Harvest Festival hosted by our Santa Barbara County Vintners' Association. We'll be joining 120+ of our fellow vintners at the Festival, plus holding an Open House here at the Vineyard. PLUS, we've got some great Harvest Specials for you, which will be available until the day we pick our last grape!

Read on for details!

Harvest Specials!

These Harvest Specials are good during our harvest only - so the day we pick the last grape, the special pricing goes away! Could be a week, could be a few - why chance a great deal?!?

2006 Pinot Noir
Notes of raspberry, smoke and peppery spice, all enveloped in a silky and soft texture. There is a nice lift of bright acid on the finish, which reinforces the cherry notes along with hints of cola and whole clove. A wine that shines with food.

$25 per bottle (normally $32)

2006 Dornfelder
Dark and inky - Dornfelder's signature trait! Framboise, pepper spice and red plum skin mingling with blueberry and dried fig, along with a hit of black strap molasses at the finish. Enjoy it with grilled meats and rich, ripe soft cheeses.

$15 per bottle (normally $20)

2007 unoaked Chardonnay
On the palate, there is a nice roundness of lemon curd balanced with the lively acidity of citrus. Additional nuances of honeydew melon, just ripe apricot and lemon verbena merge with the unmistakable stony minerality. Elegantly crisp, beautifully balanced, wonderfully refreshing and food friendly!

$18 per bottle (normally $24)

Extra Savings by the Case!

Stock up for the coming cold months and seasonal holidays by purchasing by the case. Receive an additional 5% discount - only during harvest!

A Celebration of Harvest
Celebration of Harvest 2009

We'll be joining the 120+ members of the Santa Barbara County Vintners' Association this Saturday for our annual Celebration of Harvest Festival! It will once again be held on the beautiful grounds of Rancho Sisquoc winery, on the outskirts of Santa Maria.

Besides the hundreds of premium wines to try, three dozen of our local chefs will be preparing wine country appetizers, there will be live bands filling the air with music and a silent auction to benefit the local food bank.

You'll be able to see how wine is made, from grape to glass with demonstrations of falconry for vineyard pest management, grape de-stemming and pressing (and fresh grape juice tasting!) and even see how a mobile bottling line finally puts our wine into a bottle. Top it off with a visit to the Riedel booth to check out that final touch - the perfect wine glass!

Open House at the Vineyard
Huber Vineyards

We'll also be hosting an Open House to celebrate harvest at our vineyard the entire Celebration of Harvest Weekend. Come meet our granddaughter Rebecca, who is studying viticulture and enology at the local college and helping us out in the vineyard and tasting room. We'll have a few treats for the weekend as well, as we'll be previewing our 2006 Charlotte's Reserve Dornfelder and introducing our 2008 Hafen port-style dessert wine.

If you're one of our Weinkenner Klub members, you can also pick up your Fall Club shipment over the weekend.

We'll be open Friday through Sunday, from 11-4.

Our vineyard is right off Highway 246, between Buellton and Lompoc. Hapgood Road is a u-shaped road, almost directly across the highway from Babcock Winery. Look for the big wine cask and our sign at the end of our driveway!
