| Unique
for its true east-west orientation, Santa Rita
Hills is bounded by the Purisima Hills to the
north and the Santa Rosa Hills to the south.
The geographical uniqueness of the area lends
itself to wines of purity and distinction. With
no barriers between the rolling hills and the
Pacific Ocean, the area enjoys cool morning
fog, strong breezes in the afternoon and a cool
temperatures throughout the day and night. This
results in a longer growing season and grapes
that are fully ripe with excellent structure,
bright acidity and intense concentration.
Although Santa Rita Hills
only received official recognition of its uniqueness
in 2001, the area has long garnered favor with
both critics and connoisseurs of fine wines.
"The true excitement
of Santa Ynez, though, lies westward towards
Lompoc and the ocean…
[which] perfectly suits Pinot Noir and Chardonnay..."
(Hugh Johnson, World Atlas of Wine)
